Printing and Scanning Quality

During the month of October we have received some 4000 paper test submissions.

Unfortunately a very large number of these are not of a good enough quality to scan and score automatically.

NCCER uses ABBYY Flexicapture, one of the best optical mark recognition software packages on the market, but the image quality received still plays a major role in the scanning process.

Here are some instructions to improve scanning:

- print at 1200 dpi

- scan at 600 dpi or higher

- submit as a pdf or a tiff file.

Most printer/scanners can do this. It is a setting that can be selected as a default on most devices.
